Vele d’Epoca 2012
One of the most eagerly awaited event of this summer in Imperia is going to start: the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Vele d’Epoca di Imperia 2012.
Since september 5th to 9th about 80 historical sailing boats – the eldest had been crafted in 1897 – will berth in the port of Imperia and will challenge in dayly regattas. Everyone will be able to admire their sails filled by the wind.
It’s a show visible from the coast, the docks or panoramic places like the loggias of Santa Chiara or Capo Berta; but the most amazing sight is from the sea, no doubt: two motorships offer a mini-cruise service, they are Dea Diana (+393472356234) and Corsara (+39336688829).
You’ll enjoy a lot of side events: every evening Borgo Marina has a feast in honor of these old ladies of the sea. So you will walk nearby the queens of the sea listening to the music and tasting the local typical dishes.
The association we belong to “Tesori della riviera” will set up an old ligurian village, with a live representation of old crafts: ”u massacan” who builds drystones, “u ferà” who makes horseshoes and shoes horses and other activities of the old times.

How to Study Even on Vacation
Last thursday we organized the first lesson of “Ligurian cuisine”. In the week we’ve submitted the idea of a “Pesto in the mortar” lesson with following “trenettata” to our guests and agreement has been massive.
Perfect timing (7:30 PM), gorgeous weather (hot, but softly windy), ideal place (the yard): together around the table where “the pesto maker” Jacopo, who is the actual champion of Imperia of “Pesto in the mortar” having won the championship last november at Olioliva at the game organized by the Palatifini Association as qualification to the world championship, has showed the correct tecnique to extract all the best from basil, garlic, pine nuts, cheese and extra-virgin olive oil.
Our guests, carefully watching, have been very interested also to torta verde (green pie), focaccia, sardenaira (a typical pizza from Sanremo), aubergines and sweet peppers prepared as appetizers. The small Maia (1 year old) appreciated particularly my pie made with zucchini of our backyard.
After the demonstration, all around the tables under the gazebo, eating trenette with pesto sauce, potatos and green beans, contending rostelle and sausage — skillfully cooked by Michele on the BBQ — with our 5 teenagers Jacopo, Marta, Lisa, Ginevra e Matteo, cooling with some “cundiun“, sweetening the palate with a delicious chocolate salami made in a blink by our very nice guests Sergio and Cristina, who travel with their scooter from Bergamo, some chocolate mousse and a fresh watermelon.
Everything flooded with beer offered by Artur, who probably thought to be at the Octoberfest in his Muenchen while was buying it.
Very very funny, thanks to all participants! We’ll remember this night for a long, long time, be assured!
