Gorgeous Day of Sport
So, the first stage of Giro d’Italia 2015 got the first verdict: the Flower Riviera is stunning.
Perfect day: bright sky, mild temperature (around 22°C/72F); calm sea, rippled only by a very light breeze.
Many many people at the starting point, to give the first push to athletes; many many people along the cycling path, on the overpasses, on the Aurelia Road; many many peole at the finish line to celebrate all, winners and defeated.
Watching TV’s images I was impressed by the colors: a lot of green, on the sides of the cycling path and on the mountains; the deep blue of the sea, with glares of the waves reflecting sun rays; the perfect ground of the path; the shirts of the 22 teams; the Giro’s pink; the light blue of the sky; the sudden dark of tunnels.
It’s been fantastic to see the “trains” formed by the athletes hurtling on the old path of the railway. The winners reached a more than 54 Km/h (33.5 miles/h) average speed: almost like the real train!
We have so many months ahead to enjoy one of the longest cycling paths in Europe: would you join us?
