The holy Week in Imperia begins with the Mass of the Palm Sunday, when the traditional “Palmorelli<\/a>” (palm buds not yet green, artistically woven) are blessed. \"\"<\/p>\n

But the most impressive moment happens on Thursday: all the old churches in Parasio<\/a>, the historical core of Porto Maurizio, the “Sepolcri” (tombs) are set up with flowers and precious ornaments; the BrotherHoods (Trinit\u00e0, San Pietro and Santa Caterina) walk along the streets and sing old litanies ending their route in the Cathedral (The Dome of Saint Maurizio), where the nel quale the ancient chants resound finding magnificent and tragic solemnity.<\/p>\n

Friday is the day of the descent of the cross and of the Via Crucis. Indeed it was exactly San Leonardo from Porto Maurizio<\/a> to recall for the first time the traffic circle in the Colosseum of Rome.<\/p>\n

Here in Imperia, the most traditional Via Crucis starts from the church of San Benedetto Revelli, on the sea, and climbs up to the hill named Calvario<\/a> when a clod of land from the original Calvario Hill in Jerusalem was buried beside the ancient church governed by the Trinitarians.<\/p>\n

The holy Saturday is devoted to meditation; even the bells, tied, fall silent… to raise their joyful song during the Easter vigil, night culmination of the liturgical year.<\/p>\n
